Privacy

This website
The site has no analytics, no tracking pixels and no advertising cookies.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your email or wallet address, if you join the waitlist | To tell you when early access opens | Our waitlist database (Upstash, in our Vercel account) only. Never sold or shared. |
| Your theme choice (light or dark) | So the site remembers it | Your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device. |
| Standard request data (IP address, browser) | Serving the page | Our host's servers (Vercel), as with any website |
| A one-way scrambled form of your IP address, if you join the waitlist | Stopping spam sign-ups (10 an hour per network) | Our waitlist database, deleted automatically after one hour. The real IP address is never stored. |
Joining with a wallet reads your public address only. It doesn't ask for a signature or a transaction.
To leave the waitlist or have your entry deleted, contact us at the address we'll publish here before launch.
The Chainmail app
The app has its own, more detailed privacy page: chainmail-app.vercel.app/privacy. In short:
- No personal details. You sign in with a wallet. We don't ask for an email, phone number, password or name.
- End-to-end encryption. Messages are encrypted on your device using MLS through the XMTP network. Chainmail has no server that receives your messages.
- Separate keys. Your wallet signs once to authorise messaging keys generated on your device. Your wallet key is never used to encrypt messages.
- On your device only. Chat history, contacts, drafts and settings are stored in your browser and never sent to us. They aren't encrypted on the device, so use Chainmail on a computer you trust. The app's own privacy page has the full details.
- No tracking. No analytics, tracking pixels or advertising in the app, and no accounts or user database.
What we can't hide yet
XMTP network nodes can see metadata: which addresses talk to each other, and when. They can't read what is said. Payments are on-chain transactions on Base, so like any blockchain transaction they're public. If you want more separation, connect a wallet you use only for Chainmail.
